Join the Board of Teaching Public Service in the Digital Age
Help shape how governments learn to govern in the age of AI and digital technologies.
Teaching Public Service in the Digital Age (TPSDA) is an open-education project working to ensure that government decision-makers have the skills and knowledge they need to be effective in the era of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. Our goal is ambitious: to positively influence the education and training of 500,000 current and future government decision makers by 2030.
We do this by developing and sharing open-access educational materials, including a digital-era government syllabus used by nearly 100 universities in 40 countries, convening a global community of educators and working with universities, governments and public-interest organisations around the world.
About the role
We are looking to appoint two new members to our Governance Board. Board members help shape TPSDA’s strategic direction, support its sustainability, and provide thoughtful oversight and challenge to the Executive Director.
This is a governance role, not a day-to-day operational role. The Board meets four times per year, with meetings held online.
What we’re looking for
We are interested in people who bring some (not all) of the following skills and experience:
Senior university or higher-education administration
Senior government or public sector
Thought leadership on AI and its implications for government and society
Strong networks and convening power
Marketing, sales and communications expertise
Fundraising and resource mobilization success
Financial management and oversight
Managing teams or organisations
Developing training courses and materials
Experience of building communities
While TPSDA works closely with universities, we are not only looking for academics. Our current Board includes three professors, and we are particularly keen to appoint at least one practitioner with hands-on experience working in or with government, public institutions or public-interest organisations. However we are also expecting to appoint at least one professor.
Just as important as skills and experience are how you show up. We’re looking for Board members who are:
Collaborative and good listeners
Optimistic and solution-oriented
Deeply committed to the public good and to improving how governments work
Diversity and inclusion
We are actively seeking to broaden the diversity of the Board, including across geography, professional background, lived experience and pathways into public service and technology. We believe this will make TPSDA stronger and more effective.
You do not need to meet every criterion listed above to apply.
Practicalities and how to apply
These are unpaid positions. Board members are not paid for Board service, but reasonable expenses may be reimbursed in line with TPSDA policy.
