Thousands of public servants are now trained in digital-era skills

2019

TPSDA founded

A group of academics and practitioners came together with a shared belief: too few public servants have the digital-era skills they need, and the fix starts with better teaching materials.

2020

Eight core competencies published

We published the eight core competencies we believe every public service leader needs alongside their traditional skills.

2020

Masters-level syllabus launched

Our full open-access syllabus went live, free for any university to teach in whole or in part.

2021

Online masterclasses launched

We began running digital government masterclasses to train educators directly. Since then we've trained 450+ educators around the globe.

2025

First in-house government training

We delivered a bespoke, week-long training programme in the UK - our first partnership bringing the syllabus directly into government.

2026

Academic Leadership Programme, Barcelona

We launched the first three-day intensive training for educators from ten countries, run in partnership with the Datasphere Initiative.

What's next

AI syllabus

A new open-access curriculum for teaching AI in government, built with educators worldwide - coming later this year.

What are we trying to achieve?

We are trying to drive up the overall number of public servants who have the fundamental skills they need to succeed in the digital era.

We believe that one of the main barriers that prevents more public servants acquiring the skills they need is a lack of the right kind of teaching and training, both in universities and within in-house government teaching academies. Our ambition is to grow the amount of high quality teaching and training through two routes:

Provide free, high quality teaching materials that can be used to build skills, both in university and government settings. Our syllabus and our competencies are our first main deliverables.

Grow a peer network of lecturers, teachers and professors across the world, to share wisdom and experience about how to build these skills.
